Occasional Word in Merechi: síri

síri [SI- RI ] ['si4i] adj. containing moisture, humid; wet through; not dried out.

Today's word continues the theme introduced in our first word, làri. We have had some rain recently, and in addition to making things wet, rain makes the air humid and the plants hydrated. The merechi have separate words for wet (on the surface) and síri. Humid air would be síri, and well-watered plants and animals, and anything not all dried out.

Examples:

[BURA- I AHLA ] [SI NI-TNO] [ÈNETI- V [TE SI- RI SO PN]

büràiahla sinítnö, enëtív të'sírisöp'n: After the rainfall, conditions were humid.

[NEDI-S [SI- RI ] [CLINI- PI ] [KI LALA-RI SO VN]

nëdís síri clinípi ki'lalàrisöv'n: Wet hair will soon dry.
